Biography
Born in Saint-Nazaire in 1980, he was dancing almost before he could walk.
Trained at the Nantes Conservatory, Julien left France for Brussels, Belgium, where he continued and completed his training at P.A.R.T.S. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s school.
Upon his return to France, he joined the Centre Chorégraphique National de Nantes and performed in all of Claude Brumachon’s pieces (both new creations and repertoire).
In 2014, he created Forbidden lights, his first choreographic work, at the CCN de Nantes. This creative momentum led to the founding of the company R14 in 2015.
He continued his choreographic research, creating La première vague and Tsunami. At the same time, he responded to various commissions, creating Statues sociales, Piel (performance), Hashtag and choreographed the music video Bleu Lagon for the group Mansfield Tya.
He attended the training program for choreographers Édition Spéciale #4 at the Centre National de la Danse in Pantin. That same year, Flashlights (an excerpt from Tsunami) was selected as a finalist for Danse Élargie 2020.
In 2021, Julien Grosvalet created M.A.D., in collaboration with La Fraicheur, electronic music DJ and producer, and 8 performers. He decided to return to the stage himself in 2023 with i Aïe i, a piece in which he releases movement and his body, which had long been hindered by pain.
