Hiroaki Umeda sera de retour à Nantes pour la première mondiale de son solo Median, qui mêle une nouvelle fois danse, création sonore et création visuelle numérique. Fidèle à son habitude de repousser les limites de l’expérimentation, le chorégraphe japonais a cette fois-ci puisé son inspiration dans des éléments microscopiques, imperceptibles à l’œil nu. le spectacle fera l’ouverture du festival Scopitone, mercredi 19 septembre prochain à 20h !

Genèse
Alors que je suivais mes croyances artistiques, j’ai commencé à m’intéresser à l’idée de chorégraphier des cellules, ou au moins quelque chose à l’échelle microscopique. Je suis convaincu que les corps humains font partie de la Nature et je n’aime pas les distinguer des autres matières quand je chorégraphie.
C’est cette croyance et cette perception qui m’ont mené à ce projet de chorégraphier à une échelle qui dépasse le niveau cognitif humain.
Plus une substance est petite, au niveau des atomes et des quarks, moins il y a de frontière entre le corps humain et la matière. En m’approchant de ce niveau, là, où il n’ y a plus ni concept ni limite pour le corps humain, je voudrai créer une œuvre de danse qui élargirait la perception des corps humains et des mouvements du corps humain.
Je me suis entouré de quatre artistes visuels et de deux scientifiques, dans cet objectif d’une fusion organique des sphères, au plus près de l’échelle des atomes.
Pertinence
Je pense que la technologie est un moyen d’accéder au monde à différentes échelles. Et pour moi, la chorégraphie et la danse ne sont pas seulement à destination des corps humains. Ce qui me fascine dans la danse, c’est qu’elle concrétise et incarne un monde qui ne peut être créé autrement que par l’existence du mouvement. En y associant la science et l’informatique, j’aimerais apporter une autre définition de la chorégraphie.

Hiroaki Umeda will be back in Nantes for the world premiere of his solo Median, which once again combines dance, sound and digital art. True to his tradition of expanding the limits of experimentation, this time the Japanese choreographer was inspired by microscopic elements, imperceptible to the naked eye. The performance is scheduled for the opening of the Scopitone festival, Wednesday September 19th !

How it started
As I pursue my artistic belief, it interested me in choreographing cells or something of a microscopic scale. I believe that human bodies are part of nature, and I do not distinguish human bodies from other objects/substances when choreographing.
This perception and belief brought me to this project, where I will choreograph in a scale which is beyond human’s cognitive level.
The smaller a substance is, in the level of atoms and quarks, the little boundary there is between a human body and the substance.
By approaching that level, where there is no more concept and boundary of human body and else, I would like to create a dance work that expands the perception of human bodies and movements of human bodies.
Significance
I believe that technology is a means of accessing to the world at different scales. And for me, choreography and dance are not only for human bodies. What fascinates me in choreography is that it realizes and embodies the world that can only be created as a result of existence of movements.
By collaborating with science and computer technology, I would like to bring different definition of choreography.
